Change the colour around you

A great way to change the look of a room is simply to paint it. In design, paint is an affordable way to update a space. If it’s time to change the energy around you, then it’s time to test some paint!

Clear the room you want to paint. Depending on the effect you want to create, paint all of your walls, or paint one accent wall with colour.

Colour is also a great way to draw attention to an architectural detail in a room.

Not sure what colour to choose? Head to your local home renovation centre or decor boutique for paint samples.

To test a colour, apply 2 coats on a small section of the surface to paint, let it dry, and see how the colour looks under natural daylight and artificial light at night. Before spending money on a full gallon of paint, make sure you like it!

Add texture with stencils

You still like the colour of your walls, but want to add a little oomph? For a partial change, add texture with stencils. This will create a look similar to wallpaper – minus the hassle of wallpaper. A small change like this can have a nice impact on your decor without spending an arm and a leg.

Add some patterns, if you dare!

Don’t be afraid of patterns. From modern to contemporary, abstract and urban, in neutral, complementary or bold colours, graphic wall designs add movement and life to your room. There’s really no limit to what you can do with patterns. If a wow factor is what you want, graphic designs are it!
