Make yourself at home fast with a coat of fresh paint.
You’ve just moved into your new house or apartment and can’t wait to make it feel like home. A good cleaning and some fresh paint will help remove unpleasant odours, such as cigarette or pet smells, and get you feeling at home in no time!
Preparing the surface
Start by washing walls with a solution of TSP (Trisodium phosphate) and warm water. Remove nails and fill holes with plaster or any other filler product, unless you plan on hanging your frames in the same spots!
A coat of primer is recommended before applying paint in a colour of your choice.
Choosing the right paint
For ceilings, choose a flat finish designed specifically for ceilings to hide any imperfections and reflect the light. Opt for an eggshell finish for your walls, and a glossier finish for doors and mouldings.
Kitchens and bathrooms require a special mildew-resistant paint that is easier to clean and maintain.
Save time with the right tools and materials
Brushes: There’s nothing better than a good quality paintbrush to paint perfect edges. An angled brush makes painting corners and mouldings much easier.
Painter’s tape: Tape can also help achieve clean lines and edges. Allow paint to dry before removing the tape.
Paint and primer in one: An excellent way to save both time and money.
Paint tray liners: Though not the most ecological solution, these help save time when painting with several colours.
