Before you start, make sure the relative humidity is 50%. If it’s lower, the paint will dry too fast and brushstrokes will show. Here are some guidelines to follow:

  1. Ideally, the room temperature should be between 20ºC and 26ºC.
  2. Prepare the surface well, removing any contaminants that might prevent the paint from adhering well. Be sure the surface is clean and dry before applying paint.
  3. If necessary, repair small surface imperfections and sand lightly.
  4. Apply the right primer for the type of surface: either an acrylic primer (new surface) or undercoat (older surface that was previously painted).
  5. Use a ceiling paint with an ultra flat finish.
  6. Trim around the entire ceiling with a good quality brush.
  7. Use a good quality lint-free 10-15 mm roller. Start in one corner and paint an entire length with one stroke, without pausing. Apply generously.
  8. Avoid painting over freshly painted areas.
  9. Create a narrow joint between 2 adjoining ceilings.
  10. Respect recommended drying time between coats.
  11. Let dry 24 hours for lighter colours and 72 hours for darker colours.
  12. Close all doors and windows during application to extend drying times.

Steps for application

Use a stepladder or a roller with an extension. Apply painter’s tape around the top edge of the walls, as close to the ceiling as possible, for a nice clean edge and avoid seepage. Always paint in the direction of the narrower length of the room to ensure your brushstrokes blend together while the paint is still wet.

  1. With a paintbrush, paint around ceiling trim. Start in one corner and paint around the entire edge of the ceiling.
  2. With a roller, paint a section of the ceiling (approx. 2 x 4 feet), making an “M” shape.
  3. Without lifting the roller off the surface, fill in the “M”.
  4. Smooth out the painted section in the direction of the unpainted section.
  5. Work your way towards the opposite side of the room, one section at a time.
  6. Proceed the same way for the rest of the ceiling.
